It cost $3,000 to remove asbestos in the building and another $12,400 to hire a company to handle the demolition. The Oneota Historic Future Alliance paid the $3,000 cost of asbestos removal and another $2,000 in 2012 towards demolition costs. The salvage of some material from the house raised another $800, leaving a balance of $9,600.
In the past four years, OHFA has paid $7,100 to reimburse the county for its expenses, leaving a $2,500 balance.
On Monday the Winneshiek County Board voted to forgive the balance due, noting that OHFA had paid over $10,000 to the county.
