Winneshiek County is about ready to submit its application for money to help buy out and demolsih seven flood-damaged homes.
County Emergency Government Director Sean Snyder met with Winneshiek County supervisors Monday morning and got approval of a resolution promising the county would spend at least $220,000 in its own funds as part of a $1.4 million project for the buy-out of seven Winneshiek County homes which were destroyed in August's flooding. The houses will be torn down and turned into green spaces.
Also Monday, supervisors approved a bid of roughly $350,000 for work on Trout Run Road from near the Hatchery back to the culvert near Olson Explosives.
Supervisors also heard a request from Quilts of Valor president Joni Johnson for $1,700 in county financial aid to the program, which creates quilts to present to people who have served in the armed forces.
