Winneshiek County supervisors Monday afternoon will conduct an official canvass of last Tuesday's election results, but it appears that Tim Schweizer has won election to the Winneshiek Medical Center Board of Trustees.
There were two seats on the WMC Board up for election on Tuesday--but just one candidate on the ballot (current WMC Board member Roger Huinker). Schweizer announced that he would seek the other seat--but the announcement came too late for his name to be on Tuesday's ballot.
There were 283 write-in votes cast in the vote, with Schweizer getting 125 votes. County Auditor Ben Steines says the other 158 votes were cast for a wide variety of people, with no one getting more than a handful of votes.
In another write-in contest, Katie Prochaska received 25 votes for a seat on the Extension Council, with Mark Jensen getting 21 votes and an even bigger assortment of people receiving the remaining 252 write-in votes.
