Tuesday night was a late night for Winneshiek County Republican Party Chair Thomas Hansen and Democratic Party Chair Matt Tapscott. The two joined other local political junkies to watch the results of the Presidential election.
Hansen says the result "was worth staying up for." He says the people's voice has been heard and now it will be important for Trump to surround himself with good people while assembling a cabinet. He says there are so many things to be done--which is why it's important to have cabinet members who can offer good advice.
Tapscott says he was "shocked" by Tuesday night's result. "My hope is that Donald Trump governs differently than he campaigned," said Tapscott. He's hoping Trump will ensure that ALL people have equal access to being successful.
Both Hansen and Tapscott say they're proud of the effort made by local Republicans and Democrats in the campaign. Hansen says his group did an awful lot of door-to-door campaigning, while Tapscott says there were lots of first time volunteers at the local Democratic Party office. "People were amazing," he said.
