Winneshiek Medical Center is expanding its respiratory care unit

This week is "National Respiratory Care Week."

Winneshiek Medical Center recently expanded and remodeled its respiratory care area, adding another comprehensive patient testing room and improving wheelchair accessibility.

WMC respiratory therapy handles patients with issues involving the heart, blood vessels and lungs.  Respiratory therapists restore and improve lung health in patients of all ages with lung cancer, COPD, asthma, sleep apnea, pneumonia and many other infections and diseases.  They also educate patients on how to manage their disease. "Our services also include providing a variety of testing that ranges from stress tests to sleep studies to pulmonary function tests and any other tests related to breathing and heart issues," says WMC Director of Respiratory Care Jena Elsbernd.

The medical center is in the process of looking for additional full and part time employees who are graduates of an AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program or meet the requirements to become certified and/or registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care.  To learn more, visit www.winmedical.org or call human resources at 563-382-2911.
