The Decorah School Board has set 6:00 p.m. Monday, November 14th, as the date and time for a public hearing related to the continuance of participation in the Instructional Support Program. The program, which allows for a formula-driven property and income tax assessment to district residents, is a long-standing program, but must be approved by the school board every five years.
Superintendent Mike Haluska said continuance of the passage of the Instructional Support Levy is critical to the school district's mission. This year it generates $743,625. "When the board passed this the last time in 2011, the resolution was written so that it gave the District maximum flexibility in our use of the income surtax option. In doing this, the board has the greatest ability to control property taxes and that has served us well."
