October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Most people are aware of breast cancer, but many people forget to take the steps to detect the disease in its early stages.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual campaign to increase awareness of prevention of the disease.

Winneshiek County Celebration of Life came into existence in the Decorah area to help those who are fighting cancer.  While it started by focusing on women fighting breast cancer, it has since expanded to cover men as well and to cover all types of cancer.

The group will hold its annual fundraiser Friday, October 14th, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at T-Bock's upstairs in downtown Decorah.

On Monday, Winneshiek County supervisors met with WCCOL representatives and signed a proclamation declaring October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
