A candidate forum has been scheduled for Thursday, September 22nd.
The Decorah chapter of AAUW and the Political Science and Social Work departments at Luther College will sponsor the forum at 7:00 p.m. in room 206 of Valders Hall at Luther. There will be two sessions of the candidates forum. The first session will feature candidates for state offices. Iowa Senate District 28 candidates Republican Michael Breitbach, Democrat Jan Heikes and Libertarian Troy Hageman have accepted invitations. Iowa House District 55 candidates Republican Michael Bergan and Democrat Pat Ritter have also confirmed they will attend. The second session will include candidates for Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors. District 3 Republican Les Askelson and Democrat Dean Thompson will attend, as will District 4 candidates Republican John Logsdon and Democrat John Lench. Independent candidate Devin Humpal has been invited, but has not yet responded. District 5 candidates Republican Lonnie Pierce and Democrat Mark Kuhn have accepted their invitations.
In each session, candidates will be given two minutes for introductory remarks. Then written questions from the audience will be read and candidates will have one minute to answer. At the end, each candidate will have one minute for closing remarks.
The candidate forum is free and open to the public. Parking is available at the Decorah Swimming Pool parking lot and at the lot behind Preus Library.
