The Decorah Parks System--already encompassing more than 500 acres--is growing by another 110 acres.
David and Rick Carlson--the partners in RANDD Properties, Ltd.--have donated four parcels of land owned by their company just south of Highway 9 and east of Pleasant Avenue.
The Carlsons say they did not want to see the property developed commercially, but wanted to preserve it. The 110-acre tract will become the third largest park property owned by Decorah Parks & Recreation, just a little smaller than both Van Peenan Park and Dunning's Spring Park and just a little bigger than Pallisades Park and all other park properties in Decorah.
No plans have been made for the property, yet, although it could be used to create a second campground. Access to the property is off of Pleasant Avenue/Siewer Springs Road, which connects the Fish Hatchery with downtown Decorah.
