County supervisors on Monday voted to financially support the City of Decorah's purchase of a used aerial ladder fire truck from the City of Indianola.
Decorah officials have been in talks with Indianola officials ever since they learned Indianola wanted to sell a fire truck for $900,000 that could cost up to $1.5 million new. City officials have been contacting Luther College officials and Winneshiek county officials about sharing the cost of the new unit--as they did in 1999, the last time a new aerial ladder fire truck was bought.
At Monday morning's meeting, County Board Chair John Logsdon mentioned the supervisors had been discussing a donation totaling $130,000. But under urging from supervisor Mark Kuhn, that total was increased to $145,000 on Monday.
