Members of the First United Methodist Church in Decorah recently shared meals and fellowship with Muslim Luther students staying in Decorah for the summer and a Muslim family from Calmar.
During Ramadan, Muslims go without food or drink from sun up to sun down every day for a month. After sundown, they gather for the Iftar meal of breaking the fast together. That's difficult to do in a setting where there are not many Muslims.
So Methodist Church members prepared a meal at 9:00 p.m. and invited both Muslims and Christians to attend. This year about a dozen Muslim students and community members joined about 20 Christians, sharing a meal and learning about each others' lives and faiths.
