Rural Decorah resident Michael Bergan has announced he is a candidate for the Iowa House of Representatives for District 55. The district includes Clayton, Fayette and Winneshiek counties. Incumbent Darrel Branhagen announced last week that he would not seek re-election.
Bergan, a Republican, is the director of HAWC Partnerships for Children and a former Winneshiek County supervisor.
There are no other announced candidates for the Republican nomination for Iowa House 55. Two Democrats have announced their candidacies--Steve McCargar of Decorah and Pat Ritter of West Union.
