The first annual "Stuff the Bus Food Drive" held by the EARL Public Transit program of Northeast Iowa Community Action has brought in 505 pounds of non-perishable food and hygiene items to be donated to local food pantries.
Several volunteers gathered Thursday to weigh the donations and to help load up an EARL Public Transit van with all of the collected food items.
Donations were accepted at Quillin's, Fareway, Oneota Food Co-op, Winneshiek County Recycling, the KVIK studios and Java John's Coffee House.
EARL Public Transit mobility manager Sam Castro called the food drive "hopefully the first of many successful drives" and thanked RSVP and Winneshiek County Recycling for their help.
