Sunflower Child Development Center is now back in their building after three months of renovations.
Renovations were needed following the discovery of a crack on the inside roof ceiling on November 10th last year. This crack necessitated evacuation of the building that serves 100 Decorah and surrounding area families. There are 140 children enrolled at the center and almost 100 of those attend on any given day.
31 employees and Sunflower families assisted in moving to a temporary location in the Stone Ridge Community Church.
Construction moved at a very rapid pace, with the Board of Directors opting to take the opportunity of a vacant building to make other needed upgrades in classrooms and the kitchen. Every classroom was touched in one or several ways: new flooring, paint, fixtures, walls, classroom re-arrangement, new insulation and a suspended ceiling were installed. Energy savings were considered when installing roof insulation and with upgrades to LED lighting.
Sunflower made the move last Saturday and opened in its previous building on Monday.
To celebrate, the Board of Directors and Staff will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house on Tuesday, March 22nd. The ribbon cutting will be held at 6:00 p.m. The open house will follow and will run until 7:00 p.m. All area residents are invited to attend.
