An artist's talk with Josh Black will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in room 203 of Luther College's Center for the Arts.
Black is using wood milled from trees on the Luther campus to create an installation in the Kristin Wigley-Fleming Fine Arts Gallery in the Center for the Arts. The installation will be on display through March 8th.
In his artist statement regarding his exhibition at Luther, Black writes, "This work is a reflection of my experience and relationship to Norway. My grandfather was born in Tromso. I was married to a Norwegian and I was a resident of the country while living in Stavanger."
He continues, "The installation and sculptures are part of a continuous discussion of cultural contrasts and understandings I went through. Themes I like to explore are my ephemeral existence, mindfulness and death. These emotions and feelings have become a bridge to better understanding my experience living in and having a direct blood line from Norway."
