A proposal for a recreation program involving all of southern Winneshiek County has gotten a boost from the Calmar City Council. After hearing a presentation about the proposed South Winn recreational program on Monday night, the city council agreed to give the project $18,000.
The Ossian City Council also met Monday night and voiced its support of the proposal, although it has not yet set a contribution amount. City councils in Spillville and Fort Atkinson are still considering the proposal.
A group of some 20 community volunteers is trying to raise money to hire a Recreation Director who would serve all four communities and surrounding areas in the southern part of Winneshiek County.
