Northeast Iowa Community College is proposing a $59.2 million budget in 2016-2017. That would be a decrease of $800,000 from this fiscal year's budget of $60 million.
However, NICC officials say they anticipate a bigger percentage of the budget will have to come from property taxes. The 2015-2016 budget called for a tax rate of 90.8 cents per $1,000 of taxable assessed valuation of property in the college's district. The 2016-2017 budget calls for a tax rate of 93.8 cents per $1,000 of taxable assessed valuation of property within the district. The NICC Board of Trustees also has approved a recommendation to continue the 6-cent instructional equipment levy and the 20.25-cent plant fund levy for an additional 10 years.
A public hearing on the proposed NICC budget will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, February 15th, in the NICC Calmar campus boardroom.
