Decorah Fast Fiber representative Jim Fritz spoke before the Decorah City Council Tuesday night, asking it to set up a board to study the question of establishing a fiber optic communications utility in town.
Fritz noted that the communication utility referendum won approval from 93 percent of voters last November. "Citizens wants this--the sooner, the better," he told the city council.
He said the next step for the city would be to pass a resolution setting up a communications utility board which could study the issue, leading up to a feasibility study for the project.
His request was referred to the city's Utility Committee, which will take up the issue Monday, February 1st, hoping to take a look at suggested language for an ordinance establishing the board.
