Decorah resident Jan Heikes announced Monday that she has started laying the groundwork for a campaign for Iowa State Senate District 28.
For many years Heikes coordinated the delivery of mental health and developmental disability programs to Winneshiek County and Allamakee County residents. She took a job with the State of Iowa after the reorganization of the delivery of mental health programs in the state.
In a statement released by the Iowa Democratic Party, Heikes stated, "After more than 30 years of experience serving families and individuals in Northeast Iowa, I am excited about this new opportunity. I have the experience and ability to go to the Iowa Senate to make Northeast Iowa a better place to live, work and raise a family."
Heikes says she will formally announce her candidacy at a later date.
