The group "Just Action," which is composed of students, faculty and staff members at Luther College and Decorah area community members, has begun on-line sign-up of a "Statement on Islamophobia."
The statement can be read at the web page https://www.luther.edu/just-action/islamophobia/
People who sign the statement--and by mid-afternoon Tuesday almost 500 individuals and 50 organizations had given their support--are promising to challenge Islamophobia "whenever and wherever it occurs." The statement also asks people to maintain "a firm commitment to racial and religious diversity."
Luther College spokesperson Wintlett Taylor-Browne calls the statement "a positive step."
The web page includes a link to a page on which people can add their name to the statement.
