The Northeast Iowa chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday will offer the first in a series of support group meetings for area adults struggling with mental illness, depression and/or anxiety.
The sessions will be held Thursdays in the conference room off the north entrance of Saint Benedict's Church at 307 West Main Street in Decorah.
The non-denominational group sessions are facilitated by group leaders trained and certified through NAMI and offer a "safe, confidential space" where attendees can "find help, find hope and find others who understand".
Each group begins with a one-minute introduction from each participant, followed by 15 to 30 minutes of educational discussion, led by the trained facilitators; after which the group is available for open discussion, to address the specific needs of the group participants.
For information and to register, call the Northeast Iowa Peace & Justice Center at (563) 382-5337.
