The Decorah Parks & Recreation Board is asking the Decorah City Council to spend $301,000 on a new water slide for the pool.
$250,000 had been set aside for the project, but the board on Monday unanimously approved a motion to recommend that the city council issue a contract for a water slide that is higher and longer than the slide that was removed from the pool this year.
Park Board member Jeff O'Gara, who made the motion, said the board has been talking about the need to replace the water slide "ever since I came on the board--which was 12 years ago." O'Gara said he wanted to make sure the public was excited about the new water slide.
Park-Rec Director Andy Nimrod has been asked to find sources for the additional funding needed, but he says money from the Park-Rec Endowment Fund might be used or money from additional fundraising.
The Decorah City Council will vote next Monday, November 2nd, on the recommendation.
