The Iowa Tourism Office has awarded a $4,000 grant to the Winneshiek County Convention and Visitors Bureau to produce a combined pioneer cemetery and barn quilt map.
The map will have historic cemetery locations on one side and the barn quilt locations on the opposite side. It will be distributed at the Decorah/Winneshiek County Visitor Center and the Visitor Centers in Burr Oak and Calmar as well as at area businesses and attractions.
Community members are being asked for help in identifying barn quilts in all parts of Winneshiek County. Currently, over 70 barn quilts have been identified, but there are still areas of the county that are not represented including Hesper, Burr Oak, Bluffton, and Spillville. If you have a barn quilt on your property and have not been contacted by the Winneshiek County Barn Quilt committee or if you know of a new barn quilt in your area that should be considered, please contact WCCVB Director Charlene Selbee at director@visitdecorah.com or (563) 382-2023. You can also contact Selbee for information about getting your farm or business on the map.
