Art display opens at Luther

If you've ever bought a memento of a vacation you took, you might be interested in an art display that opens Wednesday at Luther College.

Professor, author and artist Steven Bleicher's exhibit, "Route 66," celebrates the American zeal for collecting mementos to remember travels.  It is on display through October 9th in Luther College's Center for Faith and Life.  The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Bleicher starts with his own photographs and sketches from places along Route 66 and layers them with maps and souvenirs from the local area.  "My work is about remembrance and recollection. It's about our human need to capture a space in time, a fleeting moment and preserve it."

Bleicher is the associate dean and professor of foundations in the Department of Visual Arts at Carolina Costal University in Conway, South Carolina.
