Over 80 area children have learned how to stay safe on their family's farm, thanks to an Ag Safety Day hosted by NICC Calmar.
4- to 12-year-olds attended a full day of visiting interactive stations that had been set up at NICC. The safety stations included Animal Safety, taught by veterinarian Andrew Schatz; ATV Safety, taught by Aaron Johnson from Decorah Kawasaki; Electrical Safety with Alliant Energy staff members Amy Echard, Chip Piper, Joe Tuecke and Tina Tupy; Fire Safety with Wayne Weist and Tom Ward; First Aid with NICC Business Community Solutions Program Manager Matt Jurgensen; Large Machinery & Lawnmower Safety with Dan Neenan, director of the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS) at the NICC Peosta campus; and Sun Safety with NECAS staff member Gloria Reiter.
Sponsors for the Ag Safety Day included Winneshiek County Farm Bureau, Decorah Bank & Trust, Thrivent Financial Decorah Area Team, A & J Petersburg Agency and Norwegian Mutual Insurance.
