An intense band of thunderstorms dumped heavy amounts of rain on Northeast Iowa Monday morning, but damage wasn't widespread.
The National Weather Service Office in La Crosse says 4.24 inches of rain fell in Bluffton and 3.17 inches of rain at the Decorah Water Department. Mc Gregor in Clayton County had 3.32 inches of rainfall, while parts of Allamakee County and Howard County also had rainfall over three inches total.
But damage reports were not widespread. Hail over one inch in diameter was reported in Cresco and downed trees and some power outages were reported in Postville. The National Weather Service warned of potential river flooding, but at this point the only flooding that seems likely is minor flooding on the Upper Iowa River near Dorchester on Tuesday.
Clayton County had some of the worst damage. An Amish grocery store near Garber was destroyed by the storm. Numerous trees were reported down along HIghway 52, with some segments of the road closed until the trees could be removed. A parked semi also was blown over on Highway 52, causing traffic problems.
