It's the first week of operating for the Humane Society of Northeast Iowa's new "Love & Friendship Adoption Center" at 2345 Millennium Road in Decorah. The organization held a ribbon cutting Monday at its new facility.
HSNEI spokesperson Kim Powell said the organization has had a dream since 1995 of operating an animal shelter in Northeast Iowa. "Today that dream has become a reality," said Powell.
The Adoption Center will house up to 46 dogs and 54 cats. A director of the center will begin work in January. Volunteer workers are now taking training classes.
The adoption center project received major funding from Loma & Fritz Carlson of Decorah.
