It wasn't exactly bike riding nor walking weather Monday, but it turned out to be a good day to look ahead to next spring.
Trails from Freeport members gathered over the lunch hour with Winneshiek County and City of Decorah officials to hold a groundbreaking for the Freeport extension of Trout Run Trail.
Work on the extension of the Trout Run Trail to the Haugen-Hummel subdivision will begin next spring, with completion in the fall. Trails From Freeport volunteers have been raising money and promoting the project as a way to resolve concersn about the safety of bike riders and others who have been forced until now to use heavily-traveled Old Stage Road as a way to get between Freeport and Decorah.
