


More than 250 city, county and state law enforcement agencies in Iowa--including the Decorah Police Department and Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department--will be participating in heightened enforcement through September 7th.
The Labor Day "STEP"--"Special Traffic Enforcement Program"--is part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's effort to crack down on drunk/drugged driving.
Last year during the three-day Labor Day weeked there were four fatalities, including one which was alcohol-related. Crash data from the past five years has shown that the months of August and September are the deadliest months of the year on Iowa highways.
