The Decorah City Council on Monday night agreed to spend some more of the $4.7 million that will be raised in bonding for the Highway 9 sewer and water project. Because the city had been talking about spending up to $4.7 million, the additional $340,000 in projects doesn't impact the property tax impact--even though the overall spending will increase.
City council members felt it would be wise to spend $240,000 to install a 10 inch sewer line in front of the city's wastewater treatment plant in Freeport. That's because 10-inch sewer line is being installed in the Highway 9 project and city officials didn't want that line emptying into the current 6-inch line. City officials said installing the bigger sewer line would be a "proactive" step.
The city council is expected to take bids and then issue bonds in July.
