Decorah native chosen for young artist program in Houston

Decorah HS graduate Teresa Procter has been selected for the Young Artist Program of the Da Camera Houston Ensemble for the 2014-2015 season.   

The Young Artists are part of a chamber and jazz music fellowship program for emerging professionals in instrumental, voice, and composition.  Da Camera presents concerts throughout the year and visits schools and other venues to promote the chamber and jazz repertoire  to attract new listeners to the concert hall.  Procter, who now lives in Houston, Texas, will spend the year touring as the solo vocalist  with the ensemble to establish creative learning environments that support the Texas Essential Learning Skills.
 
Procter has also been invited to perform in Toronto, Canada as part of  the Toronto Summer Opera Workshop.  She will sing the role of Dorabella in the concert performance of "Cosi fan Tutte" by Mozart.  Her performance is scheduled for June at St. Simon the Apostle Church in Toronto.   

Teresa will receive the Masters degree in Voice Performance from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in May.  She is a student of Julie Simson and Tom Jaber.  Procter is a Decorah High School and Luther College graduate.
