The Decorah City Council will hold a public hearing on the proposed 2014-2015 city budget at 7:45 p.m. Monday, March 3rd, at City Hall.
The budget calls for a property tax rate of $13.70 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. That's an increase from the past year's city mill rate of $12.54 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.
The tentative budget calls for a decrease in the property tax levy rate for regular operations, but an additional levy for borrowing to pay for a new fire truck and the Highway 9 project, resulting in the final figure of $13.70.
Decorah City Council members on Monday night voted 7-0 to add $7,500 in spending to the proposed budget, changing the paving of a park shop road from blacktop to concrete for another $7,500.
With that change, the budget would call for total revenues of $13,701,354 and total expenses of $13,732,821.
