Park-Rec Department making plans for the city's newest park

Decorah's newest park is on property across from Vennehjem at Highland Drive and Nordic Drive.

The land already has been graded and seeded, creating an open space for recreational activities.  On Wednesday night members of the Decorah Park-Rec Board discussed further improvements at the park.

City officials have applied for a Winneshiek County Community Foundation grant to help pay for a shelter and trees at the park.  The shelter would be built by participants in a post and beam construction class to be taught in September by Vesterheim Museum.  The Park-Rec Department would supply the materials, while class participants would provide the labor.  The shelter would be built at the museum, but transported to the new park and installed there.
