The Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors on Monday tabled a recommendation from County Zoning Administrator Tony Phillips that a notice be issued to Chimney Rock Campground to remove three cabins at the campground.
Phillips told supervisors the cabins had been built without getting a building permit. Under the law, Phillips could issue a notice to remove the cabins.
But supervisor Dennis Karlsbroten noted that Phillips had earlier asked for hiring a consultant to supervise the rewriting of the county's zoning ordinances--with specific focus on language regulating campgrounds and other tourism-related businesses. "It's why we're talking about reviewing our zoning ordinances," he said. Other supervisors agreed--and a motion to table the recommendation passed unanimously.
