Winneshiek County Board approves conditional use permit allowing changes at Chimney Rock Campground

Posted: Mon, Aug 19, 2013 12:48 PM

Winneshiek County supervisors Monday afternoon unanimously approved a conditional use permit that will allow Chimney Rock Campground to make changes to its facility.

The immediate changes that will be made at the campground include 8 new campsite pedestals with electric hookups, screening and fencing for a waste disposal site and renovations to the existing recreation and shower house.

Future changes would allow 10 more electric pedestals and teepees.

The conditional use permit does not include permission to build up to three new cabins now and three new cabins in the future.  County officials say such improvements would require that the campground property be rezoned to C-1 Commercial.  The County Planning & Zoning Commission rejected such an application.  A public hearing by county supervisors on the zoning change will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 3rd.
