A court document filed in Nancy Elsbernd's case finally answers the question of how much money was taken from the nursing home.
Documents show the nursing home suffered $511,908 in "financial losses" from 2006 to 2012. But when the news of the theft of money surfaces, the nursing home board also spent an additional $116,846 in expenses as a result of the incidents. That means Aase Haugen's total loss was $628,754.
Court records show the nursing home received $52,000 in payments from its insurance company. That still leaves a net loss of $576,754.
Elsbernd has pleaded guilty to five counts of first degree theft, but she is disputing the amount of restitution she owes to the nursing home. Elsbernd has asked for a court hearing to determine the final amount.
