The Lutheran Summer Music Program returns to Luther College starting Sunday for a fifth consecutive year.
The four-week festival will bring more than 50 free concerts and recitals to Decorah between June 23rd and July 21st. Recitals will be held in Luther's Noble Recital Hall and Center for Faith and Life. The public is invited to join the LSM community for all performance events, with a brief service of evening worship with additional musical offerings following each performance.
LSM culminates in a festival of performances including the Bach Cantata Worship Service on Sunday, July 14th at 10:15 a.m. and the LSM Hymn Festival on Wednesday, July 17th at 7:00 p.m. Performances by the LSM Band (July 18), Choir (July 19), and Orchestra (July 20) will also be featured. During the final week of the program, hundreds of parents and friends will fill area hotels to capacity and patronize local businesses.
The National Lutheran Choir will perform a free concert for the public at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 29th, at the Center for Faith & Life as the 2013 LSM Guest Artist. The Twin Cities-based ensemble, under the direction of Dr. David Cherwein, will perform literature from the entire spectrum of sacred choral music including early chant, new compositions, simple folk anthems, and hymns.
