


Over 100,000 anti-government protesters on Sunday continued their demonstrations in Istanbul, Turkey. Plans to demolish a downtown park sparked the demonstrations, but the major point of protest is the rising authoritarianism of the Turkish government.
Getting a first-hand view of the situation are nearly 40 members of a Luther College Alumni & Friends tour of Greece and Turkey. Luther College classics professor Philip Freeman reports, "The protests, fires, and tear gas are all visible from our ship docked about a mile from Taksim Square."
