On Thursday night the Decorah Community School Board approved the 50/50 sharing of a Curriculum Coordinator position with the Allamakee Community Schools. The $70,000 position will be hired by Allamakee and should begin this summer.
Because of state legislation meant to encourage shared positions (including a complicated funding formula), the sharing agreement will actually provide the district with approximately $120,000 per year above the cost of the Curriculum Coordinator for the next five years. The position will enhance and supplement current curriculum efforts. The additional money will create a funding stream for a reading coach and a technology integration coach. Haluska said it was as close as you would get to "a goose laying a golden egg" from the State.
