Last week the Winneshiek County Planning & Zoning Commission voted unanimously to reject a request from Chimney Rock Campground to rezone its property from agricultural to C-1 Highway Commercial after hearing complaints from neighbors of the campground about noise, traffic and alcohol consumption.
But there's still a chance the rezoning will happen. County Zoning Administrator Tony Phillips says the campground owners have been discussing a rezoning that would allow only specified uses--in this case, cabin rentals. The other uses allowed for commercial property--such as a convenience store or a restaurant, as proposed by the owners, would not be allowed.
Winneshiek County supervisors have scheduled a hearing on the issue for 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 3rd.
