RSVP seeking volunteer tax preparers

Posted: Thu, Dec 6, 2012 6:42 PM

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program at Decorah Public Library is seeking volunteer tax preparers willing to help low income and elderly people file their tax returns at no cost to the client.

Volunteer tax preparers will serve with another preparer, meeting with the client, gathering their information and filing their return.  The training for this opportunity will take place at the Decorah Library on January 10th, 17th and 24th.  Volunteers will take a test to become a certified tax preparer before beginning to see clients the first week in February.

The RSVP program is also in need of someone to serve as a greeter for tax services at the Decorah Library to greet the client and check to be sure they have all the paperwork that is necessary for completion of the return.  The volunteers would also provide assistance with completing some written paperwork for the preparers.  You do not need to be a certified tax preparer to fill this position and would be serving Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.

For more information about helping low income and elderly file their tax returns, contact Kathy Barloon at Northeast Iowa RSVP Volunteer Program at the Decorah Library, 563-382-3717 or toll free 1-877-806-0623.  RSVP volunteers are age 55 plus and serve at non-profit agencies in Allamakee, Howard and Winneshiek counties.  As an RSVP volunteer, you will join a team of 260 volunteers who are making a difference in Northeast Iowa, one hour at a time.
