The Iowa Secretary of State's Office says final, official figures in the State Senate District 28 race between Republican Mike Breitbach and Democrat John Beard are still not available.
Recount committees in Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette and Winneshiek counties met last week. Their new combined totals show Breitbach with 14,868 votes and Beard with 14,851 votes--a difference of 17 votes.
But in order to certify the results, the Iowa Secretary of State's Office must receive approved figures from all four county boards. Clayton, Fayette and Winneshiek county boards have met to canvass the recount results--but the Allamakee County Board has not. No meeting of the Allamaee County Board has been posted yet on the county's website and supervisors will be out of town on Thursday.
An official of the Secretary of State's Office says the agency could certify the State Senate District 28 results next Monday--but only if they receive officially approved vote totals from Allamakee County
