Recount of Winneshiek County votes in Senate District 28 gives Democrat John Beard one more vote

Recounting the votes

The recount of ballots cast in Winneshiek County for State Senate District 28 is over.  The recount included a partial hand recount and a full machine recount. 

The new totals certified by the Recount Committee for Winneshiek County are:
Breitbach (R): 3,816
Beard (D): 5,657

The effective difference between this result and the one certified at the canvass is +1 for Beard.

However, when added to totals from Allamakee, Clayton and Fayette counties, the totals are:
Breitbach (R):14,866
Beard (D): 14,830

Winneshiek County's canvass will include this change after the next regular Board of Supervisors meeting, and the results will be forwarded to the Secretary of State's Office for a final, official vote total.
