Despite huge turnout, voting went smoothly in Winneshiek County

Election results got posted at the courthouse Tuesday night

Over 85 percent of registered voters in Winneshiek County cast ballots in this November's election.  That means 11,141 ballots were cast out of a possible 13,049 votes.

Of the 11,141 ballots cast, 5,867 were absentee ballots--or nearly 53 percent.

Winneshiek County Auditor Ben Steines says despite the heavy turnout, voting went well.  "I was very pleased," said Steines, who gave credit to his precinct election officials.
