Decorah native republishes book of his life stories

Decorah native Larry Charles Peterson has republished a book he originally self published in 1998, "Surviving America."  Peterson says that he had been encouraged by his father to get the book in print again after his initial 300 copies were sold. The book details Peterson's life growing up in Decorah in the 50's and 60's and progresses to what he characterizes as a series of "Forest Gump" stories about surviving unique and difficult circumstances.

When readers think of self published books, they usually think of what Peterson has now done – publishing through a print-on-demand book publishing company (it is now available via Amazon.com). But Peterson recounts his work on the original edition in 1998 when he actually copied individually typed pages, bound them together, and pasted on the book cover that features art work by his sister.  An original edition that exists in the Decorah Public Library is testimony to his commitment and book binding skills!
