Hospital board candidate says he wants "to bring peace"

Decorah resident Karl Jacobsen says he's running for a spot on the Winneshiek Medical Center Board because "there appears to be a need."

Jacobsen has spent the last seven years as the administrator of the Barthell Eastern Star nursing home in Decorah.  But he also works as an investment counselor and still works every other weekend as a registered nurse at the VA Hospital in Iowa City.

On top of that, Jacobsen says he has been a diabetic and has been a patient both at Mayo Clinic and Gundersen Clinic.

So Jacobsen believes he has a lot of useful expertise for serving on the hospital board.  He says he is running as a "non-partisan."  He says the health care industry is changing rapidly and Winneshiek Medical Center faces challenges.  That means the hospital board needs to concentrate on finding solutions to problems.  "Conflict defeats that," says Jacobsen.  That's why he says he is "offering my services" as a potential WMC Board member.
