Many years it has been difficult to find people willing to spend the time to serve on the Board of Trustees of Winneshiek Medical Center. But with the hospital's operations being in the public eye this year, a number of people may be on the November hospital board ballot.
Two people have already filed nomination papers to be on the ballot--Jim Tweedy from Bluffton and Karl Jacobsen from Decorah. Other candidates may file nomination papers by the deadline of Wednesday, August 29th at 4:00 p.m. Candidates for the hospital board must get the signatures of 50 Winneshiek County residents on their nomination papers.
There are two spots on the hospital board that are up for election. Incumbent Arlene Houlihan says she will not seek re-election. Incumbent David Gehling has not announced whether he will seek re-election, but he is expected to run.
All candidates will be listed on the same November ballot. Voters will be able to vote for one or two candidates. The top two vote getters will earn spots on the hospital board.
