The new Iowa dairy princess will be crowned at 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 8th, at the state fairgrounds in Des Moines.

Nine young women involved with the dairy community across the state are competing for the title--including two Winneshiek County residents.

17-year-old Karla Hageman, the daughter of Alan and Ruth Hageman of Decorah, will represent the Iowa Guernsey Association.  18-year-old Megan Lien, the daughter of Gary and Patty Lien of Calmar, will represent Winneshiek County.  Allamakee County and Fayette County will also be sending contestants.

The winners are chosen on the basis of their knowledge and enthusiasm about dairy, personality and communication ability.  The princess and her alternate are charged with helping consumers learn more about dairy products and the farm families who tend the farms and cows that provide them.

Both the princess and alternate princess will receive scholarships sponsored by the Midwest Dairy Association.
