Former Decorah High School track and cross country coach Daryl Landas was recognized Thursday for his support of the Decorah Viking athletic program.

Landas was presented with a "Friend of the School" award from the Iowa High School Athletic Association and Decorah High School.  They noted Landas' efforts to help get an all-weather track for Decorah High School and a fully automatic timing system for the Middle School and High School.  The award was also in recognition for the countless hours Landas has given to the students and athletes of Decorah High School as a volunteer worker at track meets and an advisor to the coaching staff.

Said the announcement of the award, "The work of Coach Landas during his years of coaching and teaching laid a solid foundation for all programs at Decorah High School to grow.  The continued growth of the programs is not possible without the support of those like Daryl Landas.  "
