New Minowa Players, Decorah's community theatre, is showing its support for another local theatre organization, Upstart Crow Theatreworks.
The board of New Minowa Players has funded a scholarship that will allow a student actor to study and perform in Upstart Crow's spring production of William Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice."
The show is performed by a cast of students in grades 7-12, including New Minowa Players Scholarship recipient Daniel Santiago Italo Rinaldelli. Danny has recently moved to Decorah with his family from Los Angeles, where he enjoyed many performance opportunities, and has since enjoyed participating in Decorah High School's speech program.
Danny will play the role of Bassanio in "The Merchant of Venice," which will be performed the last week in April at Decorah Covenant Church.
This fall New Minowa Players begins its 38th year of bringing live theatre to the area. Based in Decorah, the community theatre organization began presenting shows in 1975. Since then the group has performed over 130 straight plays, musicals, reviews, and melodramas in a variety of locations, including the recently refurbished New Minowa Players Theatre, located at 906 South Mill Street in Decorah.
